World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The item upgrade lets players boost the gear rating of an item by up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their unique stats. (For example, a perfectly rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons don't really change after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to boost their numeric stats such as damage to attack, crit chance as well as PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons come with a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. Additionally, many weapons have an added bonus that is activated when three or more of the same weapon are equipped on a unit. This bonus may be more than the damage that a weapon upgrade alone can do.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is based on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For instance, a +2 weapon will require two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. For example, if you upgrade a helm or chest, it will boost its base defense while gloves and belts will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it may reroll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain when upgrading, as well as the relative values of those stats. This means that a weapon will gain 33% attack damage when it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% doesn't mean that the weapon will be hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

A weapon can also be rerolled using the green button with arrows that circle in the item menu. This will reroll an item upgrader kit and alter its stats, but it will not reset the weapon's level or tie it to the account status.

Armor

A few armor upgrades can make the world of difference to your survivability. Certain sets offer massive boosts to poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, making traversing tough areas a breeze. In general, the greater defense you can offer your character, the more health you can gain from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.

To upgrade your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains available in the game and to unlock them all, you have to complete an additional quest that involves the Stable Trotters. After you've completed your main quest and the associated fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.

The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor is different. You'll need anywhere between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade the next one. For instance the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a large group of enemies in most cold climates and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, giving you enough protection to survive a full on raid with a handful of friends.

Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll want to work on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power if you're a Mage. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still be wearing by the end of the story, like the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can gain some benefits to your armor. Generally, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have some upgrades to your chest armor and helmets to permit you to sneak past certain monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the participant, produce the player with a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five types of potions, each with specific effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded, increasing their level of effect. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.

Upgrades to your potion require a specific amount XP. This can be earned by making them on a table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. For example when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers it is recommended that they upgrade their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and helm.

Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher level once they no longer have value and the new trinket will have an additional upgrade items bonus of 1. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it is salvaged using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool.
