Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will increase 3% of its previous damage every time it is upgraded.

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the current level of the item. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with less Upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level with normal methods.

This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate the chances of failure, and some upgrades that offer a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, which includes any pre-existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible up to 15 levels.

In the endgame, you will often find that the most effective way to upgrade your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15, and they provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes more quickly.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs You will need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that will boost a particular set of stat nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

Leveling

The upgrade system of items allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item upgrades.

When an individual player improves the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by an item upgrade that is new. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage since the item may be more expensive even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with an entirely new item that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This can be useful, but should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. The item can be upgraded multiple times, increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item can be extremely useful in PvP battles, since an item that is properly rolled it can be worth between 20 and 50x its value without being upgraded.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to increase the level of their available equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the base defense of that piece, while upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

Each item upgrade can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each when you upgrade an item it is given an opportunity to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go over the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to revert back to its original state, which will force the user to spend more materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition the item will be deducted any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or reload speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it increases its crit chance, the increase will be applied prior to any attack damage increases.
