It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
