Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain 3% of its previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the level of the item rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot for them. The item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of that equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals per.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of an item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear, even if they are unsure what can be improved upon the reset.

The process of upgrading an item level upgrade could be costly and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Certain upgrades also provide an additional bonus when reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes in the area around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible to level 15.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and offer a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs You will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus which will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. Based on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Utilizing a Glyph will boost all nodes that are linked to it, so you should aim to place your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximize the impact. For example, a Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the power of certain items by inserting upgraded components. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab in a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When a player improves a piece of equipment the original item is replaced by the new item. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback in that the item could increase in price even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens in order to do this. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a different set of extra bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it can use up lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times to increase their value, allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the max roll by 10 points. This item is extremely useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to boost the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currency to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of the piece, whereas upgrading weapons will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items can be upgraded up to five times except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to revert to its original state, requiring the player to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as all other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or speed of reload). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that, when a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its base value. For example an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost. 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from standard gear. For example, they may need less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. However, players must visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko in Central Flarine. Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs mentioned above, each equipment upgrade item (historydb.date official blog) requires an individual amount of ingredients for upgrading.
