However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we test, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to carpet.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station's external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.
2. IRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.
In our testing, the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car that is amidst a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households, but it also fits perfectly next to the coffee table or a bookshelf where you can move it around like an enchanted wand.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. The main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is an average not an extraordinary run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. However, this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is significantly superior on carpets with a low pile.
