WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the Item level upgrade being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item upgrader mod and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade items process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
