However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance.
