Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from previous versions.
