WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item level upgrade used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade items is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an The button will display a preview of an item upgrading's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrade level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will be less expensive, even if they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
