However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. This top-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. 3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and automatic vacuum cleaner and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot hoover and mop mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create an automatic vacuum and mop robot spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
