They also feature carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera robots that vacuum and mop can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot autonomous vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
