They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competitors. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot cleaner vacuums we have test. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
