The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map.
