WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade (over here) will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrader mod has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrade upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added. After an upgrade items has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is even if those items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
