WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item level upgrade; full report, has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with an button, which will display a preview of the item upgrader kit at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade items system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less even if they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
