Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be applied. A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has the possibility of dropping one of the numerous Glyphs and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus which will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Using a Glyph will boost all nodes connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. For instance an Druid should aim to place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes, but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the stats of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to be reached, and the upgrade costs increase as the item gets leveled up.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and when enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player upgrades an item it is replaced with a different item of the same type. The same armor will receive the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set of bonuses. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is a good idea however it should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.

Certain upgrades can boost their value and allow players to personalize their gear. Failures can cause the item to revert to its original condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it has gained, such as crit chance, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or the speed of reloading). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest.
