Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix changing the name of the equipment with which it is used (for instance 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment that require the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even in the event that they don't know how much it can be improved upon a reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be expensive, and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break if it fails. A failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Glyphs

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. When a player upgrades the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a disadvantage in that the item could be more expensive even if you do not require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced with an entirely new item that is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This can be beneficial but it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Requirements

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned, such as chances to be crit damage to attack, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time, or the speed of reloading). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in crit chance it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources required to upgrade items an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item might have 5 upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from regular gear. For instance they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons.
