1. iRobot Roomba j7+
The Roomba j7+, iRobot’s most intelligent robot to date, is the Roomba J7+. Its greatest breakthrough is its camera-based obstacle detection system that makes use of built-in AI to detect objects such as charging cords, shoes, and the pet waste that the majority of other robots cannot avoid (and often plough right through). It's the first robot to send you images of objects that it encounters, so you can instruct the robot vacuum cleaner best to stay clear of it.
The Combo J7+ is the most efficient robot mop we've ever tested. It picks up dirt and spills quickly and leaves no trace of it was there. The iRobot application makes it simple to control. It can schedule cleanings and create Keep Out Zones to ensure it doesn't vacuum in areas you don’t would like. It's compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant so you can start it and stop it using voice.
The design is also superior to the competition. It has a sleek, top piece that appears like toys rather than the loud and annoying robot. And the Clean Base Automated Dirt Disposal System automatically empty, which is great to speed up cleaning.
In our tests, the j7+ was quick to remove dust dirt, pet hair and other particles. The counter-rotating rubber brushes kept the debris in one place rather than sending it scattering all over the floor. It was able capture small pieces of gravel, sand, and even a bit of grit. The majority of robots cannot achieve this feat. It did without getting caught up in our pet's hair.
While it's not quite as smart as the $1,217 iRobot Roomba s9+ Auto-Emptying Vacuum and can't clean stairs, the J7+ is an excellent choice for those who require both a vac and a mop in their home. It's not expensive and the IRobot app makes it user-friendly to use.
The iRobot Home App is easy to use, but we found it less reliable as other robotic cleaner apps. It can take a while to download updates, and sometimes it's difficult to know if the update is actually working until you see it in the action.
2. Roborock Q5+
When you're looking for a vacuum that does more than just clean floors, the best self cleaning vacuum option is probably a hybrid. This category of bots typically includes a built-in water tank, meaning they can both mop and vacuum your home at the same time. They also have a range of additional features, such as smart mapping, small obstacle avoidance and even the ability to wash and dry mopping pads. They're costly at retail, but usually come down in price on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Roborock has some of our top Robot vacuum cleaner Price vacuums and the Q5+ is no exception. It's their cheapest auto-empty model, and while it's not equipped with certain features that are found on more expensive models (like no-go zones and multi-story memory) it's still a great option if you're willing to compromise a bit in order to save hundreds of dollars.
The Q5+ is extremely gentle when it comes down to obstacles like table legs and walls. This makes it an ideal option for homes with a lot of furniture. It's also very thorough in getting rid of dust bunnies which is a place where many cheaper robot vacuums can really fail. The Q5+'s navigation system is also excellent, with few misses along walls and in corners.
Like other Roborock devices like the Q5+, the Q5+ can be controlled by a few buttons on the device itself or through the Roborock app. The app lets you start and stop cleanings. You can also set schedules, create virtual barrier and no-go areas and alter your home map, or change the room's label.
If you select the Q5+ it comes with a new auto-emptying dock that's designed to make the robot easier to maintain. Installing it requires a screwdriver but once it's installed it can be done easily. It features a large LCD screen that is very useful when setting up schedules and changing settings. This isn't an essential feature for most people but it can help you keep the track of your robot's maintenance intervals easily.
3. Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra is a well-rounded robot mop and vacuum that's incredibly intelligent in its mopping and vacuuming capabilities. Its design is among the best robot vacuum cleaner in the industry however, it's costly.
The base station is attractive and is easily hidden when not in use, and its dimensions are quite small. The station's most appealing feature is the way it automatizes many tasks and functions that other robots leave up to you. It can store clean and dirty water, it electrolyzes and heats the water (which many other robots require you to do) and empty the dust bin after vacuuming, and helps keep your robot clean and charged.
And its vacuuming is impressive as well. It's one of the few robot vacuums I've tried that does a really good job of cleaning up debris from bare floors, and it's not nearly as loud as the more expensive Roomba 980 or iRobot the 900 series.
But the Freo X Ultra has its faults, especially when it comes to navigation. Its LiDAR sensors and laser sensors aren’t as reliable as other robotvacs. This means it is prone to getting stuck or get confused in certain corners or rooms in the home. It's also not able to climb stairs as well as other models and isn't equipped with a dock that can create a cleaning area for carpets that are soft.
The Freo X Ultra robot vacuum and mop is a great choice for those who need a robot vacuum that does it all.
However, if you're looking to save money or simply don't care about the limitations of this robotic, there are plenty of other great choices on the market which include a variety of eufy models for considerably less. The Eufy Qrevo Curv, for example is less expensive and offers a similar in-app experience with additional features such as the ability to climb stairs, a full-function dock, and superior overall performance when vacuuming floors and low and high-pile carpets.
4. eufy RoboVac G30
eufy is an Anker company that has a long history of creating robot vacuums that offer the perfect combination of features, performance and price. The G30 Hybrid is no different it offers a high-quality cleaning on hard floors and mopping functions as well as carpets at a price that is affordable. It's easy to set up, just snap one of the side brushes on, switch it on and plug in the charging dock. The app walks you through a few steps to connect it to your Wi-Fi, and the G30 is ready to go. You'll need to place the dock near an outlet for power and enough space to allow it to move however.
The G30 is a tiny device, measuring 2.85 inches in height, so it can be placed under most couches and low-clearance pieces furniture. Its design is more modest than other models, sporting sleek black finishes and three buttons that are physical such as Auto Cleaning start/pause, Recharge and Spot Clean (which scrubs an area in an arc for two minutes). It is also possible to connect the G30 with Amazon Alexa or Google Home to use voice commands to do unscheduled cleaning.
The main aspect that distinguishes the G30 apart from most competitors is the way it cleans. It makes use of an integrated map to draw an image of the immovable items in its path. It remembers what it has already cleaned and the areas it was unable to access. When it needs to recharge, it returns to its starting point and begins cleaning where it started.
The sleek G30 has a few issues. The iRobot Roomba is better built and has lower monthly costs. It is faster to charge, has the same battery life and is more effective on bare flooring or carpet with a low pile. It comes with a larger dust bin that doesn't require more emptying. It also comes with boundary strips that keep it from certain areas. The G30 is cheaper and easier to maintain. Its smaller canister means it doesn't have to be emptied as often, and it has less difficulty with bulky items like cereal.
