The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
