The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and an automatic vacuum cleaner bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot vacuum cleaners uk mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
