1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
