Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item upgrade and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the Best item upgrade gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make.
