Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on hard floors and carpets and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot i7+ Roomba
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot vacuum hoover using the app or voice.
The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying that eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and move around the room, and even vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After connecting, we were able to use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world filled with vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an automobile. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It swiftly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back.
The model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also offers easy access to 2 attachments and the handheld. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical not an extraordinary run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to vacuum a typical-sized home, but not enough to reach every area. (A second time generally works). This doesn't mean that this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It could pick up all kinds of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area several times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more advanced models like our top rated robot vacuum choices such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often runs out of battery power before making it back to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer components that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin, and charges more quickly.
The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of reasons, since it has a better battery life, has the ability to alter the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on both bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app provides a range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is easy to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.
In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature lets you check in on pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties, which helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning.
6. Black & Decker robot broom Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than other models to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers to clean along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which detects if it's picking up surface litter or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts its power level. It also has a smart app that lets you browse the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the vacuum's battery status and send it back to its dock for charging at the touch of a button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.
The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for instance, has a darkly-colored border that can trip up some other robots. The HRV 425BL, however was able to continue to move across the border without ever registering the edge. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
