WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item upgrades that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item level upgrade's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade items must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
