It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot cleaner with mop in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. Finally a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency.
