For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes.
