World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item upgrader kit (click the next webpage). Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It also serves as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item level.

On PC, you are able to view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats really are. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.

This isn't the only factor that influences the level of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also change its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by adding a name.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
