WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrading by 3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar Item Level Upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which displays an image of the item level upgrade at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no Best item upgrade upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and some new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
