The upgrade option lets players increase an Item Upgrader Kit's gear rating up 700 points and also add a bonus. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons will also change the stats of their base. While this is generally beneficial but it can also have negative consequences too. For items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance) upgrading them can make them unusable unless you have an extremely fortunate roll.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. For instance, if you have chests or helms, this will increase its base defense while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it is able to roll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain when upgrading, as well as the relative value of those stats. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a specific side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees required for each level will differ. You'll require anything from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade your first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For instance, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a decent-sized group of adversaries in most cold climates and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, giving you enough protection to survive an entire raid with a few friends.

Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of every zone, and sometimes in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered with gold, tokens, or fragments from trinkets that are rare.

Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to purchasing a new trinket. It is possible to upgrade a player for just 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as old one, and will have an additional upgrade bonus of 1.

Trinkets can be re-upgraded once the old ones are no longer needed, allowing a player to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded between players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

Players should upgrade their most essential items first. This means that the most-important slot items for each class are first upgraded then their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment they won't replace anytime soon (such as an earring or a cloak).
