With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
