And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot cleaner vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaner best in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the automatic vacuum cleaner's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
