WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will show a preview of the item at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrading and the current item level. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item level upgrade upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if those items are from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an Item Level upgrade that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
