The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot cleaner that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency.
