The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot cleaner with mop vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good robot vacuum option. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily.
