It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. 3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and automatic vacuum cleaner. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
