Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment with less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of the weapon or armor.
