For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum with mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.

It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
