The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
