Top Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

Robots aren't as good at picking up debris like screws made of metal or pasta pieces. They are however excellent at brushing away pet hair, dust, and dust. The most effective models come with smart navigation technology and a feature to avoid objects that allow them to maneuver around toys, cords and other household obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

Contrary to other robovacs we tested, the i3+ EVO comes with self-emptying bins that dump debris into an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging when it's filled. This helps reduce the need for hands-on maintenance and helps keep the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it must be manually cleaned after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's internal dust bin holds 2.4L of waste, which is enough to get it through four or five cleaning sessions before you have to replace it.

The i3+ EVO, just like the i7, utilizes state-of-the-art floor-tracking sensors that create maps. It also allows you to navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only keep one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map can be used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not for the i3+ EVO.

The i3+ EVO is more effective of removing debris from the surface compared to some other robovacs we've looked at, but it's not the most effective in cleaning edges and corners. It's also less gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls and made some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and it was stuck to cords and toys during our testing.

2. Black & Decker Pro Q5

Whether you're expanding your collection of robot vacuums robot (a knockout post), or just beginning your journey, the Q5 Pro is a great choice. It has an elegant design with powerful navigation and useful automation at a reasonable price. The Q5 Pro's 240-minute running time is also a lot when in comparison to other 2-in-1 robots that we tested. When the battery is low, it returns to its dock and automatically recharges, before starting cleaning where it stopped. You can manage the Q5 Pro using the app or voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

This is one of the first robots we've seen incorporate 3D mapping. This along with other advances has helped it perform exceptionally well in our vacuuming tests and mopping test. You can schedule cleanings or create no-go zones. You can also view the battery status. The app is simple to use, though it isn't compatible with Apple HomeKit and that feature is slated to be added by 2025. As of the beginning of November, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to reflect that this feature will be delayed until 2025. Some other robots won't work with HomeKit, but many of them work with Siri Shortcuts.
