It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum that mops employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.
