The process of upgrading an item, often called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.

Players can recycle six items at one time to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases according to their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An upgrade item for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can increase the effectiveness of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished by a number of means such as using upgrade components and increasing an item's mark level or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

Upgradeable items can be found all over the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The upper-right side of the screen shows the number of upgrade components required for a particular item. The price of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller, or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be upgraded with the use of a prefix upgrade, such as an insignia, or a rune, and many can be upgraded using a suffix upgrade item. These upgrades change the name of the item and add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor vigor. The only exceptions are the non-inscribable wands, the foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any mods at all.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be a powerful tool for communicating visual information. They move to draw the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting an inter-linguistic message. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.

Each glyph increases the value of a stat by a certain amount. This is shown on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is the maximum value that a glyph can improve a stat by, not the amount that it actually increases the stat by. The value of the glyph will depend on the tier as well as the quality of the product you are in awe of.

Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have an unusable rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece gear by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

If you wish to remove the glyph from an item you must salvage it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed however, you can salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments, therefore it should not be considered as a loss.

If you take an item off after adding a glyph the shards that are part of that glyph will disappear. You can also add the glyph on your equipment to provide an extra benefit. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly instead of all at once. This is beneficial for players who are taking a lot of damage from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens can be used to alter the affixes that are placed on equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from many sources, including mystery boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives players a new random affix that is usually superior to the original. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.

Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the item upgrade menu, however, they can still receive upgrades. If you click the "upgrade button", you can recycle the rerolled items. This will change the design of the item's window and let up to six items to be chosen for recycling. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined based on the item's rarity and also its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower-leveled ones.

In addition to reroll tokens players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will roll a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. Leveling

There are several ways to upgrade an item upgrader kit. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is to increase the amount of upgrade. This increases the upgrade value for the stat.
