They also feature carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the auto vacuum and mop and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
