It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
