Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense attributes of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item upgrade will appear during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Leveling
