As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoovers hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good robot vacuum job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
