Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Typically, items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, whereas items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an added bonus or impact when the equipment is in use. Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from earlier versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item can only be upgraded so many times before it is "leveled out." The cost for upgrades increases with each level however, the materials needed aren't as high.
