The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum that vacuums and mops that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.
