The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
