Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item will drop at the time of the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure how much it can be improved upon an update.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive, and it is possible that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in the area around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible to level 15.

In the final game you'll often discover that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each level requires a different amount of components to reach and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes.
