However, unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it may encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty it goes back to its docking station and automatically empties its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of constant use. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and sweep the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. After connecting we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households and can fit in well next to the table for a coffee or a bookshelf that you can spin around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before making it back to its original location.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing.
